If you are looking for the absolute best place to kayak or paddleboard on Oak Island, look no further than The Point. Located at the far west end of the island (at the end of Kings Lynn Dr.), this spot offers breathtaking views, calm waters, and access to uninhabited islands.

But there is one challenge: getting your gear there. Parking is tight, and carrying a heavy kayak from a rental house to the water is exhausting.

That is why Mr. Beach Rentals offers our exclusive "Meet-Up" Rental Service. We bring the kayaks and SUPs directly to the water's edge for you.

How the "Meet-Up" Service Works

You don't need a roof rack, and you don't need to haul heavy equipment. We make it effortless:

  1. Book Online: Select your preferred time slot online. (Note: Booking in advance is required. We only drive the truck out if we have reservations!)

  2. Meet Us There: Drive or bike to The Point (6960 Kings Lynn Dr.) at your scheduled time.

  3. Get Paddling: Our staff will have your equipment ready by the water, give you a quick briefing on the area, and send you on your way.

  4. Return: When your rental time is up, just bring the gear back to us at the shoreline and head home.

Why We Love The Point

This is Mr. Beach Rentals' favorite spot on the entire island, whether we are kayaking or just walking the dog.

While the landscape shifts with the tides, a large sandbar protects this area from the rough waves of the Intracoastal Waterway and the ocean. This makes it an excellent spot for beginners or families.

Adventures Just a Paddle Away:

  • Sheep Island: Just a short 100-yard paddle across the water. It is about a mile long and perfect for beaching the kayak to collect shells.

  • Horse Island: Paddle along the tall grasses and enjoy the quiet nature.

  • Birdwatching & Wildlife: The salt marsh ecosystem is alive with activity. Keep your eyes peeled for Great Blue Herons standing like statues in the grass, Great Egrets wading in the shallows, and Ospreys hunting from above. Because the water is calmer here, it is also the best place on Oak Island to potentially see dolphins surfacing nearby without having to venture into the open ocean.

Important Logistics: Parking & Schedule

Parking: The Point is popular! Parking is limited and is often unavailable on weekends. We highly recommend riding your bike if possible—there is a place to lock them up right by the sand. There are also two porta-potties and a foot-washing station for your convenience.

Rental Times: We offer flexible 2-hour rental blocks, perfect for a paddle and picnic. Want to stay out longer? No problem. We also offer 4-hour and 6-hour blocks if you want to spend the whole day fishing or exploring the islands.

Please check our live booking calendar for exact availability as times change with the season.

Top Kayak Spots on Oak Island: The Point & Davis Canal

While The Point is our personal favorite for its stunning views of the inlet and access to Sheep Island, it isn't the only launch on Oak Island. We have a whole page on our site dedicated to awesome launch sites.

If you are looking for a long, straight paddle through the heart of the island's salt marshes, the Davis Canal is another top-tier choice we can meet you at. It offers miles of protected water that is perfect for windy days when the open inlet might be too choppy.
