If you are looking for the most peaceful, beginner-friendly paddling experience on Oak Island, the Davis Canal (also known as Davis Creek) is the answer.

Stretching through the heart of the island, this protected waterway offers miles of glass-smooth water, shielded from the wind and ocean waves. It is a hidden world of salt marshes, quiet docks, and incredible wildlife.

But how do you get a kayak there if you don't have a truck?

The Easiest Way to Paddle: Our "Meet-Up" Service

We know that hauling gear is a hassle. That is why we offer our exclusive "Meet-Up" Rental Service specifically for the Davis Canal.

Instead of delivering to your house and leaving you to figure out transport, we meet you right at the water.

  • The Location: We meet customers at the Oak Island Recreation Center Dock (119 SE 31st St). There is easy parking and a dedicated kayak launch that makes getting in and out dry and simple.

  • The Schedule: We offer 2-hour rental blocks throughout the year.

  • The Gear: Your kayaks or SUPs will be waiting for you when you arrive. We give you directions for entering off the kayak launch dock, and off you go!

Why We Love the Davis Canal

While the ocean is fun, the Davis Canal offers a completely different side of Oak Island.

  • No Boat Wake: The canal is a "No Wake Zone" and is generally too shallow for large powerboats, meaning you don’t have to worry about waves rocking you.

  • Wildlife: It is a birdwatcher's paradise. Expect to see Great Blue Herons, Egrets, Kingfishers, and plenty of crabs sunning themselves on the banks.

  • Beginner Friendly: Because the water is so calm, this is the #1 spot we recommend for first-time kayakers.

Ready to hit the calm water?

Mr. Beach Rentals didn't start in a boardroom; it started with a problem on a sunny day in Oak Island.

In 2013, our founder, Nathan Reich, was visiting his grandfather on OKI. He wanted to try standup paddleboarding but couldn't find anywhere on the island to rent one. Realizing he wasn't the only one looking for fun ways to explore the water, he decided to be the answer to that problem.

Founded in 2014 under the original name paddleOKI, we started with a simple mission: renting kayaks and paddle boards to the Oak Island community.

Growth and the "Mr. Beach" Rebrand

What started as delivering a few boats quickly evolved. Focused on making the rental process easier and more efficient, paddleOKI grew rapidly. We expanded from just watersports to renting bicycles, beach umbrellas, chairs, grills, and baby gear.

Our customers loved the transparent low pricing and the easy online booking system. Through word of mouth, demand grew beyond Oak Island.

In 2017, realizing we were serving the entire region, we officially changed our name to Mr. Beach Rentals. This change reflected our expanded delivery area, which now includes Holden Beach, Sunset Beach, Ocean Isle Beach, Southport, and Caswell Beach, in addition to our home base of Oak Island. Meet Nathan Reich: The "Bike Man"

Nathan grew up in Burlington, NC, but his heart was always at the coast, spending summers in Oak Island working with his grandfather.

A 2009 graduate of NC State University with a degree in Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Management, Nathan brought professional industry experience to the local beach scene. Having worked for some of the largest travel and entertainment companies in the world, he knew how to build a service that put the customer first.

In the early days, locals often referred to him simply as the "kayak guy" or the "bike man" as he ran deliveries personally. He embraced those nicknames, building the company on a foundation of hard work and personal connection.

Our Commitment to You

Since day one, Mr. Beach Rentals has been dedicated to "Delivering the Fun." Whether you are a long-time customer who remembers the paddleOKI days or a new visitor to Brunswick County, our promise remains the same: Outstanding service, high-quality equipment, and competitive pricing.

We look forward to showcasing the best that Brunswick County, North Carolina has to offer for many summers to come!
